When the original designer specified the components for Slayer Premium Fishing Tackle, he used his experience in fishing to design better fishing products. Here are some of the thoughts that went into designing Slayer:
Starting with the extremely sharp teeth found on all sharks, the designer knew that a smaller diameter leader would work better because it could go in between the teeth into the gum-line and avoid much of the abrasion that can cut the line. For this to work though, you would need great flexibility as well so that the line would not break at the point of connection or contact. For the cable products he went to the finest cable on the market – aviation cable. Aviation cable is designed for high strength at a very small diameter, and most have extremely high abrasion resistance. All of the Stainless Steel cable used for Slayer Shark Leaders is custom made just for Slayer from High Quality Aviation cable. Nothing but the best!
Next you have to look at the body of the fish you are trying to catch. With sharks, they have sharp sandpaper-like skin that allow the shark to twist most lines around themselves and cut themselves free. Slayer leaders are designed to be long enough to protect your mainline from being cut by your targeted fish. For this reason, be sure to by the right leader for your fish! Most Blacktip Sharks are under 3′, so this 36″ leader will work great. If you know that you will be targeting the larger 4′ Blacktip Sharks, then you should use Slayer’s 6′ Shark Leader. It is not only longer, but made of heavier cable and a larger hook.
The other advantage of using small diameter leader material is that it provides less visibility in the water. This makes it harder and less likely for the fish to see your leader. If the fish does not see the leader, it is more likely to see a natural presentation of the bait, which means more strikes!
